ALLERGENS

Whether it’s a pint of cask ale in our taproom or a bottle of beer from our bottle shop, we want you to enjoy your purchase from us with confidence. We’ve outlined below some useful information regarding allergens.

THE 14 ALLERGENS

These are the 14 allergens we recognise (as defined in the UK by the Food Standards Agency).

  • Celery
  • Cereals containing gluten
  • Crustaceans
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Lupin
  • Milk
  • Molluscs
  • Mustard
  • Tree nuts
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame seeds
  • Soybeans
  • Sulphur dioxide and sulphites
  • Our beers

Most of our beers contain just four or five ingredients; water, malted barley, wheat, hops and yeast. All of our beers (like those of most other breweries) are brewed using “cereals containing gluten

A few of our beers contain lactose (milk) and sometimes they may also contain other allergens. To help you make an informed decision, we list all ingredients and highlight allergens in bold text on all of our packaging and on our website.

At the time of writing, we do not currently brew ‘gluten-free’ beers (however we offer a selection of ‘gluten-free’ guest beers in our bottle shop).

    HOW WE LIST ALLERGENS

As a business, we sell our products in a number of different ways. How we communicate allergens will vary according to whether the products is:

  • Prepacked
  • Non-prepacked/dispensed/loose
  • Prepacked for direct sale
  • Prepacked PRODUCTS

We sell the following prepacked products in person (on our premises) and in some cases via our website:

    • Bottled beers
    • Canned beers
    • Bottled ciders
    • Bottled wines
    • Bottled spirits
    • Bottled soft drinks
    • Canned soft drinks
    • Bagged snacks
If you’re purchasing prepacked products in-person in our bottle shop, you will find ingredients and allergens listed on the label/packaging. If you’re purchasing online, you’ll find a full list of ingredients and allergens on each product page (to view this from the shop front/catalogue page, simply click on the product photo)Where possible we have highlighted allergens in bold text on all packaging and website listings.

    NON-Prepacked PRODUCTS

We sell a number of non-prepacked products in-person at our premises. These include dispensed or poured drinks (e.g. beer served in the taproom from a hand pull) food items offered on our taproom menu and loose bar snacks. In this instance, we will:

    • Display a list of allergens on all menus
    • Display a ‘please ask about allergens’ sign
    • List allergens next to any buffet items
    • Hold a reference sheet containing product ingredients

In addition, our team will be very happy to answer any questions you may have, so please feel free to ask!

    Prepacked FOR DIRECT SALE PRODUCTS

An example of a product prepacked for direct sale is something freshly prepared and packaged on-site for consumption later (e.g. a sandwich). We don’t generally offer products within this category, however, if/when we do, we will ensure that all products show a full list of ingredients with any allergens listed in bold. Once again, our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

    STREET FOOD VENDORS

Regular visitors to the brewery will know that we sometimes invite third-party street food vendors to sell food that is freshly prepared to order. In this instance, we advise customers to double-check allergens with the vendor.
